When young, pretty Catherine Bailey meets Lee Bright-man, she can't believe her luck. Gorgeous, charismatic, and a bit mysterious, Lee seems almost too perfect to be true.
But what begins as flattering attention and spontaneous, passionate sex transforms into raging jealousy, and Catherine soon discovers that Lee's dashing good looks hide a dark, violent nature.
Four years later, Lee is behind bars and Catherine—now Cathy—is trying to build a new life for herself. Trusting no one, she compulsively checks every lock of her apartment and varies her route home each day. Then an attractive new neighbor moves in. Encouraging her to confront her fears, he sparks unexpected hope and the possibility of a normal life.
Until the day the phone rings.
Mesmerizing, skillfully drawn, vividly cinematic, Into the Darkest Corner is an ingeniously structured tour de force of suspense that marks the arrival of a major new talent.
What I Thought
This is the first time for me to read a book about OCD and PTSD. This book is brilliant. The pace is not too fast (it has a possibility to be boring) but the events charmed me line by line. It also marked with dates instead of chapters. I could felt Catherine's fear. How she managed her panics, her hallucinations, her traumas....even I don't know how hard it was to have an OCD for your whole life (like Cathy said to Stuart).
Sylvia was so annoying at first. Have no clue why she so angry to Catherine, but finally the reason revealed. I'm still confused why Claire had mad to Cathy and left her. It pretty disappointed coz in my opinion, a BFF should stick together. I believe the author just forgot to explained, coz Claire wasn't an important character.
Even it took long time to finished, I enjoyed reading this book with no hurry :D
